Light Bryan & Co. is the management and organizational consulting and executive coaching practice of Bill Light. My whole purpose is helping individuals, groups, teams, and whole organizations to improve their performance and effectiveness by inspiring change from the inside out. There’s no one named Bryan here (it’s actually my mother’s maiden name). The Light Bryan combination, however, keeps me from being deluged with inquiries from people seeking commercial lighting fixtures, ways to pay their electric bill, or discounts on Bud Light.
Usually I work alone, when illuminating individuals or groups of fewer than 15 people. For training, team building, or strategy initiatives with larger groups, I call out the Light Brigade from a select network of seasoned, sharp, and like-minded consultants throughout the U.S. Now that we’ve cleared that up, the bio, please.
Bill Light—Principal & Professional Coach
Prior to founding Light Bryan Consulting in 2004, I spent 25 years in marketing, business development, and general management—with Teledyne, ILC Technology, and Allergan. I was Vice President and Creative Director of Roberts Mealer, a leading Southern California brand development firm and General Manager of Scientific Spectrum, a supplier of laser and electro-optic systems in North America. My corporate clients over the years number in the hundreds and include more than 30 global 500 brands. I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from California State University Long Beach, and a Master of Science in Organization Development from Pepperdine University. I also completed leadership training at the Colorado Outward Bound School and through Leadership Effectiveness Training (L.E.T.); trained in interpersonal and group consulting at Pacific Gestalt Institute; and have completed the Certificate Program in Evidence-Based Coaching at Fielding Graduate University .
On a personal note, I’ve been a practitioner of Zen and mindfulness meditation on a daily basis for more 40 years and have taught moving, standing, and seated meditation to hundreds of people at meditation centers, yoga schools, and in other organizational settings. Helping leaders and groups become more aware, calm, and focused provides a rock-solid foundation for not only higher effectiveness, but also for greater authenticity and engagement. Astounding changes take place in people when they begin to trust and operate from their Higher Natures, which do not reside off in some rarefied sphere, but rather are always right at hand.
Two other qualities distinguish me from many coaches and consultants in this field: 1) a focus on applied human performance, which helps people reframe their roles in terms of the actual performance factors that create success; and, 2) extensive training in applied group dynamics, which helps people better navigate the complex social psychology forces at play in their workplaces.
